The only thing that you can be sure of with Ukrainian Alternative Progressive metal band Marvel is that you never get bored ‘cause “anything they release will be totally different to anything they have released before”. For being such a quite young band they “play by their own rules” and “never limited themselves to any one style”. We have previously talked about this band with the EP review of “Reduce My Pain” and the following single “Naiti Sebya” and the main difference that our reviewer Vard Aman can recognize is that “Olga Skripova‘s vocals have been somewhat “tamed” in comparison to the rest of the band so she is now less of a driving force and more of a riding /guiding force” and in comparison to the previous releases “Black Stone” EP features “complex driving rhythms with subtle experimentation”. If we want to find a flaw to this release is about its shortness as complains Vard “however, could perhaps have benefited from an extra song or two” but this is not a good reason to not check out this band.

Moving back to Ukraine (again) with something more canonical here I introduce you the review of the independent releases of Onatra with the EP “For your Soul” and the SINGLE “Lies”. What Onatra offers is a simple but well-played Symphonic Metal. Vard has got his reason when says that “Onatra is really a troublesome child” ‘cause for what I know all the members except the founder Marta Medler have left the band. On a last note, both the EP and the single are avalaible for FREE DOWNLOAD in the official site. (via Onatra – “For Your Soul” EP & “Lies” SINGLE (2012) « Femme Metal Webzine)

From Canada to Ukraine, with this virtual travel we do a step back in Europe with the Rivne based Death/Funeral metal band Amilyband that debuts on Solitude Productions with the album “To All in Graves”. Our dear Vard Aman took the chance to review it and seems that he quite enjoyed this release insomuch as to rate it 90 out of 100. The main singer is the growler Growllemin Amor but on only one song, “Fading Image of My Own”, features the enchanting female vocals of Amatielle. In conclusion, if you love Death/Funeral metal you MUST check out this release. Read more @ (via Amily – “To All in Graves” (2012) « Femme Metal Webzine)

Sad Alice Said began in 2005 as an all female outfit called Alice In Wonderland. Since changing the name, the band has undergone some line-up changes and not features a multi-gender line-up. Sad Alice Said recently signed to BlueFreya Music has just issued their debut single for the song “Open Your Eyes”. “Open Your Eyes” begins with some nice piano before transforming into a melodic, Symphonic Metal piece and a song that is not easy to forget once you’ve heard it. The track is 4-minutes long and lead vocalist Alisa Shakor provides an outstanding vocal range throughout, and the usage of violins helps to give it a melancholic vibe. I know it’s only one song, but “Open Your Eyes” has me more than a little interested in what Sad Alice Said has in store on their future recordings.

Mortalium are a Gothic Doom Metal band from the Ukraine. With their debut 4-song, 17-minute output the band show a style that includes many great and heavy riffs and the crystal clear vocals of Maria at the front. The CD kicks-off with the slow, deliberate pacing of the title song. A heavy riff and Maria’s likeable vocals are the driving force behind this song. The band speeds things up just a bit for the next track, “Wake Up”. Yaroslav contributes some interesting keyboard work on this one. Another excellent track that features some more solid riffing. “In Sadness and Fear” is next and as you might gather by the title, has a melancholic tone to it; still this is one of my favorites. The use of violin definitely helps accentuate the despair that the song conveys. “Worms Are Waiting” brings this all-too-short EP to a close on a positively doom-y note. This song features quite a few tempo changes and was another highlight. After listening to these 4-songs on “On the Broken Wings” it is apparent that Mortalium have something cool going on. After just 17-minutes, I was ready for more.

Review By Tony Cannella

From the Ukraine, the Symphonic Metal band Delia was formed in 2005. Their debut album, out now on ROK Music is titled “Spogad” or “Recollection” (the English translation). Delia sings mainly in their native language and display quite a lot of musical diversity and talent throughout the course of the 60-minutes or so we are treated to on “Spogad”.The vocalist Anastasia has a simply huge voice and the songs have a majestic quality to them, thanks to the combination of the vocals and musicianship that is on display. The 15-songs presented here have a rich texture to them, with the band utilizing choirs and symphony elements to contribute to the massive sound on the CD. There are many highlights on “Spogad” but my favorites were tracks 6 and 7. The 7th track (“Знайди мене”) in particular is a huge favorite, with Anastasia really delivering just a great vocal performance on this ballad. Throughout “Spogad”, Delia creates a definite mournful atmosphere and vibe that comes shining through loud and clear. “Spogad” is a potent debut from this excellent new voice in the Symphonic Metal genre.
