Adrana is not only the band’s name but also is the title of the fictional character who’s a princess - some hints about it:” There are many battles, betrayals, murders and unmentionable secrets that punctuate the epic story of Adrana. Adrana talks about the difficulty of bringing people together in their diversity, and the difficulty to win the trust of others. Adrana shows us that very often we find ourselves alone with our destiny”. Pedro Engel, the mind behind the project Acylum, is always ready to challenge the ebm scene. The new full-length “Karzinom” follows the steps of the previous work “The Enemy” but with a different and much better production. Together with his wife Nadine Cooraz, he delivers tracks like “Shoot’em Up” and “Question” which take over the listener with their rythm, while “Deutsch” has lyrics that will sparkle criticism once again among the lovers of the genre. The orchestral arrangement only add layers to the tracks. Acylum have created an album of madness, but once again it’s a vision of a world you’ll want to visit again and again. It is confusing, alienating, but fascinating at the same time. So, you only have to start the trip to try with youe own ears.

Review By Tony Cannella

From France comes Sub-Division. They play a unique mixture of Electro-Rock, Gothic and Industrial Metal. Their new album (and fourth overall) is titled, “Ten Years Before the Dream” and it features all of these styles and others to create a uniquely odd musical offering, so strap yourself in and get ready for “Ten Years Before the Dream”. “Ten Years Before the Dream” features 13-songs worth of Electro-Rock nirvana that fans of the genre will love and appreciate. The overall style of the band is unique, but it does bring to mind several bands in the genre, but perhaps the group they most remind me of are the last two albums that Theatre of Tragedy did with Liv Kristine, mainly because this band also employs two vocalists (a male and a female) and the male vocals have a bit of a robotic feel to them. I am no big authority on the Electro-Rock scene, but the songs on “Ten Years Before The Dream” has a commercial viability to them. The CD also has an ambient and ethereal vibe to it as the band plays with different nuances and emotions. Songs that really stood out, for me were: “Love Assassin”, “The Voice”, “Age of Machines” and “Next Level”. The two vocalists contributions are split pretty evenly. Obviously, Sub-Division are not a straight-out metal band, so metal fans be advised. This band should be a welcomed sight for fans of Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM and latter day Liv era Theatre of Tragedy.

Croatia is not a country you would normally associate with metal, but it does seem like some good bands are coming from that part of the world these days. Omega Lithium are one such band. The band is fronted by Mya Mortensen on lead vocals. She is joined by Malice Rime (Guitars, Synths and Backing Vocals), Zoltan Harpax (Bass) and Torsten Nihill (Drums). The band play industrial gothic with strong metal overtones. All of that can be heard on their debut CD “Dreams in Formaline”“Infest” starts things off and it has a definite hard edge to it and as an opener it is pretty successful. All the elements are there that should please metal fans. It’s heavy and has a good pounding rhythm and rock solid vocals from Mya Mortensen. The band also utilizes various computer like sounds that gives it it’s industrial vibe. Male vocals are also provided by Malice Rime on this one. The next track “Stigmata” is about as good as it gets on this CD and would make a great single, in my opinion. It’s got a great mid-tempo beat and it is a song that sticks in your head long have you’ve heard it and has you hitting the replay button. A solid melodic tune, instantly infectious. “My Haunted Self” keeps the momentum moving forward, with it’s rhythmically haunting feel to it. More male vocals are featured here and they are of the brutal variety, but they meld quite well with Mya’s approach. “Dreams In Formaline” is next and it is a pretty cool change of pace. The first verse’s lyrics are spoken by Mya before launching into a beautifully catchy chorus, actually the whole song is quite catchy. Other highlights include: “Andromeda”, “Nebula”, “Hollow March” and “Point Blank”On the whole “Dreams in Formaline” is quite an impressive debut from this Croatian upstart band. One of the impressive things about it is the diversity of the songs. They have the ability to go in many different directions and convey different emotions. The 12-songs and 38-minutes worth of music showcased here, show a band that is quite confident and carry themselves like a veteran band.

Independent Release

Review by Tony Cannella

From Paris, France comes Interria. The band features two female members Jenni Signorino on vocals and keyboardist Julie Hénau. The rest of the band line-up is as follows: Xavier Dafonte (Guitar/ Sounds), Stef Montiel (Guitar), Fabien Calmon (Bass) and Franck Metayer (Drums). They have already released a demo (in 2006) and an EP called “Digital” in 2008. Their full-length debut is entitled “Les Corps Impatients” and I have to say that I was quite pleasantly surprised after hearing it for the first time. Now, after having the chance to listen a few times, I am all the more impressed with this band. The majority (if not all) of the lyrics are sung in the bands native French language and that proves to be a non factor to us non-French speaking people. The songs and the material are quite strong throughout the 11-track 39-minute opus. Describing the band can be somewhat difficult, since they incorporate a wide range of influences, but they definitely lean a little towards industrial/electronic overtones, but the songs are quite listenable and still have a heavy basis to them. The opening track “Ø” is a 1-minute intro track, using various electronic sounds and segues into the opening track “Nouvelle Ere”. It is easy to see (or hear) after a few moments of listening to this song that there is a definite accessibility factor with Interria. This is a good lead track and a song that is a good intro to this very talented French act. “Mindustrial” is next and it begins with a biting riff and the vocals of Jenni Signorino joins in. She has a nice, very like-able quality to her voice. She just delivers the lines with power and conviction and she is everything you could want in a lead singer. The rest of the band makes quite a cohesive unit as well. This is definitely a song that I could see giving the band a wide appeal. The next track “Nemorkia” is just a loud and fast punk rock type of songs, with crashing drums and basic rhythms. Jenni aggressively spits out the lyrics with rapid fire precision. “Voodoo” slows things down a little bit as the band shows they can be quite diversified. This is another song that I feel can have a tremendous amount of commercial appeal. The hooks and the melodies (pretty much throughout the whole album) are undeniable and infectious. “[m]road, “I-Code” and “Evasion” are some more shining examples of the consistency and viability of Interria. There is a lot to like about Interria. You don’t necessarily have to be a fan of industrial or electronic music. Those styles do not overwhelm anything. The songs are quite good actually and have a real shot at propelling the band to impressive heights.

Hailing from Lichtenstein Erben der Schöpfung have been in existence since 2000 and have just released their second full-length CD titled “Narben der Zeit” and it features 10-songs and 56-minutes worth of some pretty good goth/electronic metal with an emphasis on melody. Usually whenever this band is mentioned, it is in conjunction with fellow countrymen Elis, since Elis includes several former members of Erben der Schöpfung, but this band is good enough to stand on their own and the music contained on “Narben der Zeit” is a testament to that. “Frequency” is the first track and it combines the heaviness of metal with modern electronic sounds, it is a good opener that is very catchy. The band follow that up with the track “Jane Churm”, a good melodic track that sets the right tempo and is one of the absolute highlights. The third track “Homeless” slows things down a notch. It is a stirring ballad and the vocals of Dina Falk are nothing short of breathtaking on this one. The song also feature some nice orchestration and it has a different tone than the other songs on this CD, making it another track that definitely stands out. “Der Tote See” speeds things up a bit and brings back the electronic elements. Other highlights include: “Leaving”, “Locked”, “Your Lullabies” and “Twisted” closes the album. It’s amazing to me that Erben der Schöpfung have been around for as long as they have, yet still have gone relatively unnoticed. This band has a lot to offer the metal world and after listening to their newest output “Narben der Zeit” one can only hope that they get the attention and support that they so richly deserve.
