UK Progressive Metal Master To-Mera on 2012 via its own imprint Illusionary Records has published the third album “Exile”, so we took the challenge to ask some question to the founder and lead vocalist Julia Kiss (now in MacLean). When enquired about the most challenging task during the recording session, Julia confesses : “We recorded all the vocals ourselves, so it was very different.[…]But it’s also easy to obsess about tiny details and take 5x as long as necessary!”. About the split with Candlelight Records, the Hungarian singer said that “It was the result of a number of factors really, mainly the fact that we just wanted to do our own thing musically – without the pressure of a sales focused entity behind us”. Instead candidly Julia admits that won’t be touring for this album, ‘cause “we recently lost our drummer Paul and due to the fact that “the band members just got other priorities, other projects to focus on”. As for To-Mera’s future nothing is clear considering what Julia declared in the following words : “I think we also feel that we’ve said what we wanted to say with this album and perhaps it’s time to take a break “.

(@mediaevalbaebes) It’s time for a [musical] digression with the UK classical/folk ensamble Mediaeval Baebes (Official) that features in its ranks Pythia’s Emily Alice Ovenden too. But this time we have had the chance [or better Alessandra had] to interview its core member/founder Katharine Blake. In this interesting interview Katharine has explained the whole lyrical concept behind their latest album “The Huntress” and particularly the singer states that “there is a strong theme of female energy represented on this album through the symbolism of the moon and the huntress”. “The Huntress” is a double CD and when Katherine is questioned about the reason of such tracklist she said : “We have represented the duality with the concept of the double album, the first CD being more earthy and folk in feel, and the second CD taking on a more esoteric and classical tone”. But the fact that striked the most Alessandra was the utilize of different languages [such as the “Mediaeval Latin, Middle English, Modern English, Mediaeval Irish and Arabic”] and, with facility, Katharine admits that “I don’t find it difficult to sing in all these languages. It takes a bit of learning, but it is incredibly rewarding to sing and compose in all these varied tongues.”

After a lot of line up changes (see the keyboardist -“Our keyboard player explained that he’s finding it increasingly impossible to appear on stage with us, because of his full-time envolvement with his other band”.) Romanian Power Metal band Magicaare ready to unveil us their new [and sixth] album “Center of the Great Unknown”. As Ana [Mladinovici, the singer] admits the new platter is a concept : “It started with some news about arctic expeditions, continued with some research about Admiral Byrd‘s attempts to reach the north and south pole by air and then derived further from a series of books written around the year 1800 about the hollow earth”. The vocalist doesn’t hide the fact that would like to record more songs in Romanian [like happened for the bonus track “Daca”] but “I don’t think we’ll do more than one or two songs per album like this”

After the successful review, our debutante interviewer Robert (please welcome him!) has got the hard task to interview the founder and the female singer of the Belgian power/progressive metal band AZYLYA. When she questioned what was the main difficulty Jamie explained that “The biggest challenge was to translate the sequence of images comprising the history of Ginger (the heroin) in music”. Also about Azylya’s birth, Jamie told us that “the thing was done so naturally that I never even thought that the project would not have been possible. I must have a damn good dose of unconsciousness”. This girl has a lot a projects for her band and according their schedule the “first date is April 20 to Roeselaare (BEL) with the English group Absolva. A dozen dates have already been confirmed for 2013 and 2014”.

After reviewing their debut self released album “Schuld”, our dear Matteo has dedicated some of this time to prepare this nice interview with Janika Groß, singer of the promising Opera Metal band molllust. Janika when’s questioned about why choosing to play the opera metal genre she has replied stating that : “Because this is the music that speaks out of my heart. My roots are in the classical world and I like the soft, touching moments inside the huge variety of dynamics and the dramatic”. According this interview not all the band members has a classical background only “Sandrine [violin], Johannes [bass] and I grew up with classical music”. Instead talking about her personal musical background, Janika declares : “Music didn’t really enter my life – it was always there. As a baby, I refused to sleep without getting sleeping songs. I started to sing my first songs as soon as I was physically able to manage it”

It’s with pleasure that we give space, for the second time, to one of the most promising young band that in the last years are receiving positive praises from all over the world and I’m speaking about Swedish melodic modern metal band Amaranthe. Our editor Alessandra was so lucky to interview their leading lady Elize Ryd (Elize Ryd Off. Page). Not so many fans know that Elize is a belly dancer too and about this she states : “I must confess that I have never done belly dancing before I did it on stage with Kamelot. I love dancing in general. I am a professional ballet, modern and jazz -dancer, and all dancing technique comes from ballet so If you know the grounds it makes it very easy for you to catch up other styles”. Elize’s not afraid to declare that she will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest only if “I got a really great song, or If I wrote one myself I feel represents me in the perfect way” but “so far I am not ready to take that challenge, but maybe in the future”. When Elize is questioned about that famous Nightwish gig in Denver, Colorado, US on September 28, 2012 she says : “I was scared, and at first I felt really sorry for the fans. I could really feel the disappointment. But then Tuomas asked the audience if they wanted to see the show anyways without Anette and instead having me and Alissa as guest, and everybody cheered the highest cheer I have ever heard, there was no doubt”

Not so much time ago we’ve introduced to you the Russian Symphonic Metal bandlanewin with their second album “Eclectic Tour” and we’ve (virtually) sent our dear Vard in his beloved Russia for have a little chat with the charismatic singer Anna Belaeva. The inspiration to found Infinity (the previous moniker that suddenly was changed ‘cause it “was too overused”) was thanks to Nightwish’s “Sleeping Sun” song and about that moment Anna recalls : “I was so impressed by that music, that the same day I listened to all their songs, and straight after that I started listening to music, before that day I didn’t listen to it”. The band has already had the occasion to show its potential as a opener for Delain in both Moscow and Saint Petersburg in 2012 and Anna about that experience says : “It was incredible. Delain is one of my favourite metal bands and to perform with musicians that you admire is an honour”.

Not so much time ago Matteo got the chance to review “Intet Menneskebarn”, the stellar debut album by Danish Nordic Folk metallers Huldre. Matteo was so mesmerized by it that he decided to interview their singer Nanna. Huldre’s lyrics and music, as Matteo noticed, focus on the Nordic nature and folkore and Nanna, on this topic, stated “I think we now in our culture seem far away from living near and with the unspoiled nature, but some people, me included, seeks back to the mystique and spirit of the nature with both the heathen and old folklore belief”. Also, despite being the lead singer, Nanna is a busy bee because she’s “the leadsinger in two other bands, Gny with medieval/folkmusik and Asynje with new and inspired Viking/ folk/electronic”. So be sure to check out these musical projects. In the end, if you love Korpiklaani & Co, you should check out this promising band.

From the Austrian Alps comes the Chaos itself XD I’m just kidding. Now being serious, we’ve already introduced you before the Crossover rock/metal bandKONTRUST and after the successful review (that was rated 90 OUT OF 100) Matteo took some time to interview one of the two vocalists, and as the Femme Metal Webzine tradition wants, we asked few questions to the Polish female singer Agata. I’ll quote one phrase from her interview and she says “Never stop if you want to rock”. Who you cannot agree with it? Also do you need to take a break from your daily life? Well, just enter Kontrust’s “wonderland” and “escape the reality” reading this awesome interview  (via Agata – Kontrust « Femme Metal Webzine)
