The only thing that you can be sure of with Ukrainian Alternative Progressive metal band Marvel is that you never get bored ‘cause “anything they release will be totally different to anything they have released before”. For being such a quite young band they “play by their own rules” and “never limited themselves to any one style”. We have previously talked about this band with the EP review of “Reduce My Pain” and the following single “Naiti Sebya” and the main difference that our reviewer Vard Aman can recognize is that “Olga Skripova‘s vocals have been somewhat “tamed” in comparison to the rest of the band so she is now less of a driving force and more of a riding /guiding force” and in comparison to the previous releases “Black Stone” EP features “complex driving rhythms with subtle experimentation”. If we want to find a flaw to this release is about its shortness as complains Vard “however, could perhaps have benefited from an extra song or two” but this is not a good reason to not check out this band.

(@svartrecords @tuomaskarhunen) “After their high praised self-titled debut” Finnish occult rock band Jess and the Ancient Ones are back a brand new EP called “Astral Sabbat” released by Svart Records. The only thing that our reviewer Luisa has done it was reconfirming her opinion about this band and their musicianship : “The EP is made up of three tracks bathed by a magic breath, a liquid sound that is found also in the instruments”. So, as Luisa recommends “if you love occult rock, this is a release you cannot miss”.

Let’s start with the first part - what I propose you to read is a nice REVIEW of the debut EP “Mad Hatters” by UK progressive rock band Touchstone. Originally this EP was released in 2006, now thanks to SPV, this release sees the light with a slightly different cover album and some bonus live material. The main difference that Tony has stated in his review is that “this is the one and only appearance of female vocalist Liz Clayden” who does “only occasional vocals, mostly in a background or support capacity, like on the 8-minute “The Mad Hatters Song”. As Tony writes it’s a “worthwhile release for anyone who is just discovering the band”. Read more @

Moving back to Ukraine (again) with something more canonical here I introduce you the review of the independent releases of Onatra with the EP “For your Soul” and the SINGLE “Lies”. What Onatra offers is a simple but well-played Symphonic Metal. Vard has got his reason when says that “Onatra is really a troublesome child” ‘cause for what I know all the members except the founder Marta Medler have left the band. On a last note, both the EP and the single are avalaible for FREE DOWNLOAD in the official site. (via Onatra – “For Your Soul” EP & “Lies” SINGLE (2012) « Femme Metal Webzine)
